Students planning to enroll in CUA's Department of Library and Information Science may apply to work as Graduate Library Pre-professionals in the Law Library. The GLP Program combines full-time work with part-time study and provides an excellent opportunity for DLIS students to acquire in-depth library work experience while completing their MSLIS degree.

The Law Library GLP Program is administered independently from the CUA Libraries GLP program. Prospective students are encouraged to submit separate applications to both programs.
Participants must enroll in CUA's Master of Science in Library and Information Science degree program and make reasonable progress toward the degree. GLPs are not required to focus their studies on law librarianship. For further details, see Who May Apply (below).
GLPs work full time in the Law Library while attending classes part-time.
Participants must resign their GLP positions upon completion of all MSLIS degree requirements, including comprehensive exams.
GLPs receive six credit hours of free non-taxable tuition for the fall, spring and summer semesters, for a total of 18 credit hours per year. The GLP program allows students to complete their degree requirements in two years or less.
In addition, GLPs are paid a semi-monthly stipend as (taxable) compensation. Except for their unique tuition benefit, GLPs enjoy the same benefits as non-exempt University employees. For more information, consult the CUA benefits page.
The Resources & Services Assistant (GLP) participates in the management and maintenance of the tangible library collection, and supports user services at various access points within the library. The Resources & Services Assistant also supports law library digital initiatives, including maintenance of an institutional repository, production and content of online user guides, and assists with technology troubleshooting for library users. The Resources & Services Assistant will also be provided an opportunity to gain library experience working with both the circulation and the reference and research department.

It is not necessary to wait for an acceptance letter from DLIS before applying to the Law Library GLP Program. However, proof of admission to DLIS is a prerequisite to any GLP award. The Law Library cannot assist applicants to obtain admission to CUA.
Incoming students: You may apply to the GLP program while your application for admission to DLIS is pending. However, you must be admitted to DLIS in order to receive a GLP appointment. Application to the GLP program does not guarantee your acceptance to DLIS.
Open to students enrolled in the MSLIS degree program of in the CUA Department of Library and Information Science.
Applicants must be eligible to work in the United States. The Law Library cannot assist international students in obtaining visas or work authorizations.
Although incoming students are preferred, applicants currently enrolled may be considered.
Applicants who have been granted provisional or probationary admission may be considered.
Previous academic or law library experience is helpful, but not required.
